Listen to Your Own Song ā€“ What if I donā€™t Want to be Famous?

Artist LaAerial shared her version of success and life purpose

Sharing is caring!

Multi-disciplinary artist LaAerialā€™s story on seeking life purpose, redefining success, fame and legacy in her own terms

A lot of times, we tend to forget what got us to where we are today. We are taught to fear a lack of ambition, and to be constantly competitive, LaAerial reminds us that simply ā€œbeingā€ is already a reason to celebrate.

Often pressured to pursue ā€œstardomā€ and ā€œsucceedā€ by her parents, vocal coaches, and people around her, the talented songstress LaAerial has come to realise that ā€œthe pressure to achieve is a complete lie.ā€ After travelling to 30 countries, and beginning her third degree in fine arts, experiencing lots of love, and lots of heartaches, she realised that those are other peopleā€™s dreams, and not necessarily her own.

ā€œI really enjoyed busking, like the time in Hong Kong on a footbridge in Central, I busk because itā€™s a great way to rehearse and reach new audiences. I think itā€™s even more exciting than New York and London because people are so attentive and friendly here. I was able to connect with HKers and mainland Chinese, as well as Filipino travelers and passersby. It was unexpected and full of surprises. I live in the present and I experience fully.

I am glad I can experience different culture freely while surrounded by beautiful and exciting sights, and thatā€™s what matters to meā€.

ā€œI donā€™t care about legacies or being remembered,ā€œ said LaAerial, who has been described as ā€œa beautiful singerā€ by Amel Larrieux and performed at legendary venues including The House of Blues and been featured on the MTV Network, performed on Live! with Kelly, The Tonight Show, and contributed vocals for the legendary rap group Public Enemy, to name a few. ā€œIā€™ve written endless songs and poems, worked with topnotch artists and partied with famous types. I hope to be satisfied.ā€ To Laā€™Aerial, being able to touch her audience through the art and life she creates, is her utmost desire.

ā€œDonā€™t spend your life chasing other peopleā€™s dreams. We should only be competing against ourselves, I know itā€™s difficult to say ā€œno,ā€ particularly to family and loved ones, but saying no to the things imposed upon you which are not desires of YOUR heart, is the very first step to freedom.ā€
